Approximately 300 students representing a wide range of ages and backgrounds take courses at The Newman Institute. Students will find a close, personal atmosphere where individual academic counseling is provided.
The Newman Institute is located in the heart of Uppsala, a cultural and educational center with a population of 230,000, including 50,000 students at neighboring Uppsala University. Cultural and social life flourish with many venues for music, theatre and exhibitions, as well as social activities in numerous student organizations.
Uppsala is only 40 minutes away by train from Sweden's capital Stockholm.
The Student Nations are central to student life in Uppsala. Each of the 13 represents a different province in Sweden providing a space for everything from reading or studying to sports, activities, choir, restaurants and nightlife. All students are welcome to join.
The Newman Institute offers housing in Uppsala for its international students.
The city campus is located in the center of Uppsala and has a student residence with full-furnished single bedrooms. The students share bathrooms, fully equipped kitchens, laundry room and social spaces. Depending on the room, the rent is 3600–5500 SEK a month.

The Jesuits at The Newman Institute are also connected to the Catholic parish of St. Lars (Lawrence) with a church less than a block away. The parish offers daily masses and there are active student and young adult groups.
There is a chapel within the main building of The Newman Institute open on weekdays for visitors, for moments of peace and contemplation. Catholic mass is celebrated during the terms on Tuesdays at 12:15.
