Last week, Dr Barbara Crostini, Docent and Lecturer in Church History and Cultural Studies at the Newman Institute, took part in the International Conference on Byzantine Studies at the University of Vienna, where around 1,500 delegates from around the world gathered for a week of presentations and academic exchange.

Barbara organised an international panel entitled “Feasting the Word: In Search of Performative Christianity in and around Byzantium” and presented her own paper, “Theophylact of Ohrid’s Commentary on Luke and Christian Performativity”.

The conference ended with a memorable closing reception in the courtyard of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, next to the Jesuit Church, accompanied by a choir. A rewarding week of meeting scholars from around the world and sharing research and ideas across the broad field of Byzantine Studies.
