October 25th: Arboreal Lives: Saints among the Trees in Byzantium and Beyond

Thomas Arentzen, Researcher at Uppsala University and Visiting Research Fellow at Lund University.
Thomas Arentzen is docent in Church History from Lund University. Having spent the previous academic year as Fellow in Byzantine Studies at Dumbarton Oaks, he currently conducts the research project “Beyond the Garden: An Ecocritical Approach to Early Byzantine Christianity” at Uppsala University, where he explores the role of trees in Byzantine Christianity. He has recently published the monograph The Virgin in Song: Mary and the Poetry of Romanos the Melodist (2017) and the edited volume The Reception of the Virgin in Byzantium: Marian Narratives in Texts and Images(2019; with Mary Cunningham).
