November 7, Higher Biblical Studies Exegetical Seminar, Faculty of Theology, Uppsala University and Higher Seminar for Late Antique and Byzantine Culture, 3-5 pm, Eng 22-0031.

This joint seminar has two speakers, Laura Lieber and Barbara Crostini, who will explore Jewish texts and art from late antiquity concerning the figure of Queen Esther.

Presentations:

  • Prof. Dr. Laura Lieber, professor of Transregional religious history, University of Regensburg.
    ”An Imperial Esther: Qallir’s Subversive Embrace of Byzantine Royal Representation,” where she discusses how the seventh-century Jewish poet Qallir interprets Queen Esther as a royal and subversive figure in relation to the Byzantine Empire.
  • Dr. Barbara Crostini, Senior Lecturer in Church History, Art History and Cultural Studies, Newman Institute, Uppsala, and Docent in Greek, Uppsala University.
    ”Reading the Enigma of the Esther Painted Panel in the Dura Europos Synagogue,” where she addresses the painted panel depicting Esther in the synagogue at Dura Europos.

Varats, livets och handlandets mening i den franska filosofin under 1900-talet.

Den 14-15 november kommer Christine Zyka från Newmaninstitutet att delta i ett internationellt teologiskt och filosofiskt symposium, som äger rum vid Université catholique de Lyon.

Temat är livets och varats mening ur ett franskt 1900-tals perspektiv. Talare som är med, förutom Christine Zyka, är Emmanuel Gabellieri, före detta dekan för den filosofiska institutionen vid UCLy (Université catholique de Lyon), Emmanuel Falque, professor vid Institut catholique de Paris, D. Coutanea och B. Bouillot från Facultés Loyola Paris (som ingår i Kircher-nätverket tillsammans med Newmaninstitutet) m.fl.
